Money is waiting to be made on the Internet! As with any online business, the key to success is an effective marketing campaign. But before you dive in, let's take a look at all the ways you can get wealthy on the web.

There are four main ways to make money online. There are additional ways, of course, but these are the easiest and the simplest. They're also the best, so don't worry about the others.

Four Primary Ways To Make Money Online

1. Affiliate Marketing Programs
2. Information Products: Master Resale Rights (MRR) and Private Label Rights (PLR)
3. Automated Online Businesses
4. Network Marketing/Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)

Affiliate marketing is simply selling a company's products and earning a commission on every sale. The appeal of affiliate marketing is that all you do is drive buyers to the company's web pages. The company handles the rest. The more potential customers you herd to their site, the more money you'll make for yourself.

When you sell information products, you market information that's sought by others, typically to solve a problem. Also called "niche marketing," there's no inventory, you get paid directly by the buyers, and you can develop a clientele in specialized market areas.

With MRR, you buy the right to sell a product developed by someone else. It differs from affiliate marketing in that you get to keep 100% of the profits. MRR products come with websites and sales copy, but you have to customize the sales process yourself. You can also sell the right to market MRR products to others and earn additional income. MRR is an excellent way to create a passive income stream, but you're not permitted to change the products in any way.

PLR products, usually books or articles, can be customized or changed in any way you wish. The advantage of PLR is that you can develop and market completely unique products. PLR products do require more work; you'll have to individualize the products and create your own web pages. There's obviously much more to MSR and PLR, but that's the difference in a nutshell.

Also known as "biz opps," automated online businesses sell you the opportunity to market a pre-existing business to others. It's sort of like a franchise. The business sells products, but prospects buy in primarily for the right to sell the business opportunity to someone else.

Biz opps can be tricky or misleading. The acid test is whether the products associated with the business have actual value. Would people buy in just for the products? Would you? If not, you'd be better off investing your money in something else. Without attractive products, the business is not likely to last.

Network marketing, also known as multi-level marketing (MLM), brings to mind images of a proverbial Uncle Ernie pitching you the latest and greatest in soap or vitamins this week, only to switch you to something even better next week. The Internet has changed all that, but a stray Uncle Ernie may still be found here and there.

What MLM has become is an efficient and profitable way to market excellent products. It makes for rapid and broad distribution of goods, and profits go to the sales force instead of to the marketing companies. An advantage of MLM companies is that, with good products, they tend to have longevity. If you believe in the product and are sold on it yourself, this might be your cup of tea. But be aware that it's a slower money-maker than other online opportunities.

One final point: it's essential to have an online mentor. Regardless of the business opportunity you choose, don't assume that you know what's necessary to make things work. Get help from someone who's already mastered it and follow their lead. By hooking up with a mentor early on, you'll avoid costly mistakes and put yourself in the best possible position to achieve success.
